Edmunds Tests Mazda CX-7 AKA "Metropolitan Hawk"

Recently the CX-9 has been getting all the attention, but let's not forget the CX-7. The CX-7 is a unique little bugger with its turbo four cylinder engine that is borrowed from the Mazdaspeed 6. The mill has been retuned to provide more low end grunt, but it still wants premium fuel and Edmunds only saw 16.6 MPG. The CX-7 is quite stylish and that style spills over into the interior where MX-5 and RX-8 queues abound. The CX-7 also picks up some traits from its sisters in the handling department. Edmunds found the steering to be nicely weighted and the stability control to not be too controlling. The brakes were described as "freaking awesome."

Crossovers continue their long march and the CX-7 is a nice effort from what I can see. I had a chance to walk around the car at the LA Auto Show, but it was locked so I can't really say that I got the full experience. Going the turbo route certainly is an interesting twist, so we'll have to see how that gamble pays off. I don't know when folks might start to rebel against low mileage vehicles--if it's not $3 gallon will it be $3.50 or $4?
