Honda Manufacturing Plans Confirmed
Building on a previous story: Honda announced its plans to spend $400 million to build a new factory in the USA that will have the capacity to make an annual 200,000 vehicles when it goes live in 2008. Other plants in the USA will receive additional investments as well. Canada scores a new facility as well by gaining a new $140 million plant that will produce four-cylinder engines. Japan also gets a new manufacturing plant. China and India may also receive production boosts. Talk about a spending spree!
Honda also announced plans for a "family car" hybrid with a price tag below that of the existing hybrid version of its Civic that will debut in 2009. The press release is very vague about the car, but I think it's safe to assume that they are referring to the next generation Fit. Time will tell if this assumption proves to be true.
A new 4-cylinder diesel engine will arrive in Canada and the USA within the next three years. Gasoline engines will also see improvements in mileage.
