ABC's of the S-Class
The NY Times has a review of the new S-Class. I was a bit disappointed to read in the first few lines of the article that the Mercedes was displaying an error message on it's screen. Mercedes had made a huge deal about how the new car had been fully debugged. A simple reboot solved the issue, but on a car that can easily scale to $100,000 why should the owner be expected to turn in off and on again. More worrying, there is the axiom "Things that go away by themselves can come back by themselves." By all accounts the new S-Class is a brilliant vehicle, but it seems that there are still ghosts in the machine. Certainly waiting a year for some of the bugs to be worked out would be a wise choice.
The next generation Lexus LS will also sport an armada of electronic goodies. I'll be interested to see how good a job they have done given that Toyota has recently had its share of gaffes.
