Bob Lutz: Anything Beyond 2 Inches Is a Total Waste
...of space. Bob Lutz, speaking at Ward's Auto Interiors Show, said that the next CTS will have seats that are slimmer, more elegant and provide for greater leg room. Seat backs are now around 7 inches deep, but Lutz thinks that with modern materials you can get the same comfort and safety with a much thinner design.
Other nuggets of wisdom from Mr. Lutz? "If you're doing a $20,000 car, I believe you have to have a $30,000-looking interior." "Power outlets are the new cup holders."
Personally, I've always been a big believer in the importance of a car's interior. It's where we spend the most time, so why should it be a focal point? I'm happy to see that folks like Mr. Lutz are pushing for improvements and I can't wait to see the products that will be coming out of the next few years.
