Why Not Have smart Sell the B-Class in USA ?

B-Class above, A-Class below

With the recent chatter over the B-Class and the possibility of it coming to the USA, something I really doubt will happen (at least as a Mercedes model), I got to thinking about what would make sense for the USA market: marketing either the A or B-Class models as a smart. I think the likelihood of buyers accepting an efficiently packaged front drive car as a smart is much better than a life on a Mercedes showroom floor. This move would give smart another model to sell and might capture some buyers who would otherwise leave after realizing that a two seater simply isn't going to work for their lifestyle. I really can't see much of a downside. The B is pretty much ready to roll in the USA. I don't think that MB dealers want anything to do with it. What's not to like about the idea?
