Uncle! Ford to Sell Volvo After All?
More fuel on the "Sell Volvo" fire is being poured by London's Sunday Times issue. According to the Times:
It had been thought that Volvo might be kept because it is profitable, but it is believed that Ford is now ready to receive offers.
Analysts think that Ford might be able to get $8 billion for Volvo. That's enough to keep even Dr. Evil happy for a quarter or two.
Stepping back further to look at the situation, it seems that Ford is wiping the decks clean of everything Jacques Nasser tried to setup. Certainly losing the British units was something that most people could understand, but Volvo brought a lot to the table for the blue oval.
One can't say that this is too surprising, however, as anytime a rumor keeps popping up like this one has there has to be some truth behind it.
I'm rooting for Ford, but I have to say that all of these sales are starting to look like true acts of desperation. What is more troubling, is that I'm having a hard time seeing anything in the product pipeline that is truly revolutionary. There might be some solid products in there, but I don't see any 1986 Tauri.
