Walking in Memphis

I should know better. When it comes to me and having a glitch free flying experience the airlines always win. Always. After arriving at the airport an hour and half early this morning I was feeling good. The security line was empty and since I had checked in online it should be have been a breeze to get to my gate. I won! That's when I looked at the screen and saw the worst thing you can ever see when looking at a departures monitor: cancelled. Crap. I was rebooked through Chicago instead of Dallas. No biggie. Only an hour delay. We arrived in Chicago and I made my way to the gate. I was the second person down the jetway on the Memphis flight. I won! Sadly as soon as we got on the plane we were booted because the plane was "Leaking more oil than they like to see." That got me wondering about how much oil leaking out of a plane is acceptable. Disturbing. Finally I arrived in Memphis. I was one of the first to get to the baggage claim area. I won! Unfortunately there was no one there holding a sign with my name on it. After a phone call and some waiting my chauffeur arrived and we were off. Whew!

It's all good though, because now I'm in Memphis and ready to do some driving! A Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry were on hand for a very brief ride and drive. I was able to slip under the wire and drive all three even though I was massively late. Unfortunately there's no way to take those three cars out on the highway for an extended drive.

Tonight there was a tour of the Gibson guitar factory, a brief design / engineering presentation and dinner at BB King's. Tomorrow starts up early with marketing presentations and then the main event: the ride and drive of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.
