Today In History: The First Drive-In Service Station


December 1, 1913

Before Gulf Refining Company opened this drive-in facility in Pittsburgh automobile drivers had to visit a general or hardware store, or even blacksmith shop, in order to fill up their tanks. The Gulf station also sold commercial road maps and offered free air and water.
