Trains gaining as sensible alternative to cars

Trains gaining as sensible alternative to cars

Will tremendous number of commuters switch to rail? Probably not. However, there is increasing interest here in California for alternatives to the way we travel. I believe that California will stay car-crazy as ever, but miles driven might drop. I've been taking a lot of train rides lately because my son has a great interest in them, but as a commuting tool I can understand some of the advantages that people see. The impact of the mortgage crisis and current fuel prices have really shaken up our snow globe and we're all trying to find our footing. Stories like this give some examples of what people are doing to beat higher costs and lessen their energy demands. Will our cars and commuting habits become more European? I'm okay with fun & funky smaller cars, but don't try and sell me on 8oz Cokes with no ice.
