When Buying A Gas Guzzler Makes Sense: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance
The WSJ asks, when does buying a gas guzzler make sense? The easy answer is, when you need it but for those who don't drive very much the often very well equipped vehicles can be an excellent value especially in used form. Of course, driving such a sled in a town like Berkeley can make you a real pariah.
I like how the article states "An Expedition with four-wheel drive has a sticker price of about $35,000, but in many areas, consumers can drive one off the lot for around $30,000 after discounts and negotiations." When was the last time this guy looked at the market? You can get way more than a $5k rake off an Expedition. Heck, in our market the "Cars Direct" price is $29,000 and you can almost always beat that price a grand or two. The writer could have been talking about the drive off price which includes tax and title, but I doubt it.

$5k off an Expedition? If, and I do mean "if" I was in the market for such an oversized outrageous vehicle, then my thoughts would be: Let's talk about starting at $10k off, and we'll go from there.
$5k off.... I laughed out loud when I read that.
