Today's Trucking: The Online Business Resource for Canada's Trucking Industry
Hey, mom, look!!! I just got 12.1mpg. Doesn't sound that impressive, right? However, this mileage was achieved by a 40-ton Mercedes Actros cab-over-engine tractor pulling a 55,000-lb payload. Now that sounds more impressive, doesn't it? It should be noted that the test was conducted on a racetrack in Italy and not in actual stop-n-slow traffic. Mercedes says that the test shows traffic conditions, topography, vehicle configuration and maintenance make up 40 percent of the fuel consumed. Naturally, we'd all be better off without traffic jams, but the impact on truckers can be considerable. You can read the full story by clicking on the link above.
What this all boils down to for me is, how long will I continue to get free shipping from Amazon before they either raise prices or start charging a fee? :-)
