I don't know how many science programs I've watched where the return of the blimp has been touted. "More payload!" and "Less fuel!" have been some of the frequent claims made by inventors. Boeing is teaming up with the Canadian company Skyhook for another take: a combo blimp/helicopter. When compared to a traditional helicopter, the Skyhook design would offer "more payload" and "greater range." The idea makes sense in theory, but I have yet to see blimps with anything but Snoopy and Goodyear on the side.
Could the heli-blimp mean the end of the road for Ice Road Truckers?
