Roads To Get a Low Sodium Diet This Winter?

Road salt, that wondrous de-icer that helps to keep so many motorists on the straight and narrow might be in short supply this winter. Combining on top of a salt shortage, what can be found will come at a hefty premium: one town paid $41.23 a ton for road salt last year and is now getting quoted $103.63 per ton this year.

As a young pup in Oregon, I was used to seeing cinder on snowy roads instead of salt, so the concept of rusted out Maxima's didn't really register until I visited family in the Midwest. Of course, the famous video above was shot in Oregon so, you know, we do have our challenges as well.
