Boehner: Additional Aid to Automakers "Neither fair to taxpayers nor sound fiscal policy."

Rounding up approval for any additional funds for automakers might be tough for the lame duck congress as the top Republican in the House of Representatives stated today "Spending billions of additional federal tax dollars with no promises to reform the root causes crippling auto makers' competitiveness around the world is neither fair to taxpayers nor sound fiscal policy."

Democrats hope to get a package put together in the next few weeks and get assistance on its way before President-elect Obama takes office, but it won't be a cake walk for Pelosi & Co. I think it's fair to say that people are split on whether or not automakers should receive emergency aid. While Democratic advances in the last election will certainly help automakers' chanced at getting assistance next year, it's a crap shoot whether or not they'll see extra cash from the current group of legislators.
