Backup! 221 Killed In 2007 by Backing-Up Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released study data that attempts to quantify "non-traffic" deaths. Amongst the sad tally was number of backup deaths, 99 of those being children age 14 and under. Other watchdog organizations validate that around two children per week die from backovers. These numbers are much too high and I believe that given recent innovations, backup cameras or sensors should be required in vehicles, especially since low cost monitors can now be integrated into review mirrors.
