It looks like the cash strapped government might really give gas prices a goose. With many states looking to boost their revenues, state gas tax increases look inevitable. The Fed's also are a looking to get some cream from this cow as well, so the net result could be a boost of 20 to 40 cents per gallon (my estimates, not official) when you add up all the increases (some of which would be phased in over a number of years).
Given that we're still marveling over cheap gas, now is the time to boost gasoline taxes. It has been a long time coming, but at some point we have to pay to play and gas taxes have not kept up with the times. Provided that these funds are used for the transportation infrastructure and are not siphoned off for other sneaky uses, I'm all for it.
