The Hummer saga continues! There have been a lot of rumors about who might be interested, but so far each one of those parties has stepped back and declared that they are not interested. Now comes news that there might be some potential buyers from the Middle East. "For sure, there has been interest from various parties within the Gulf ... there is a precedent in the cases of Aston Martin, Ferrari or Daimler and those kinds of solutions could be very realistic solutions," said General Motors Middle East Managing Director Terry Johnson.
There certainly isn’t a shortage of oil or bravado in the Gulf, so buying an icon like Hummer just might make sense for an Arab buyer. Let’s face it, whatever GM ends up pricing the brand at, these guys probably have that kind of cash stuffed in their private jet’s couch.

Not That Kind of Hummer: Deripaska Says Nyet
So much for ACATT's scoop. Apparently our Russian friend isn't keen on acquiring the Hummer brand. To quote his car unit Russian Machines, "Russian Machines neither received any proposals to consider acquisition of the Hummer assets, nor is strategically interested in such a deal."

GM in Talks to Sell Hummer Brand to Russia's Richest Man?
Update: Apparently there is no merit to this story (not that any of my posts have merit, but this one has less than usual.)
This is breaking news and right now I don't have time to research it. However, Reuters is reporting that GM may have had exploratory talks with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska on the possible sale of Hummer. Since Deripaska acquired twenty percent of Canada's automotive supplier Magna International, he may try to use Magna to manufacture Hummers should he acquire the brand. Deripaska has been a bit of a tire kicker, having looked at acquiring Chrysler, Land Rover and Jaguar.
There could be complications, however, because last year Deripaska has his U.S. visa revoked due to concerns he has links to organized crime. I hate it when that happens. Deripaska has denied any links to criminal organizations.

Hummer HX Concept Sketches
A few shots of the forthcoming Hummer concept which could spawn an H4 production variant. I don't know how much an H4 model would take from this design, but at least Hummer has something to show. Sure there have been introductions like the H3 Alpha and what not, but it's been pretty quiet from the Hummer camp.
Could a production H4 offer up the same sort of success for Hummer that Jeep has had with its Wrangler?
I'm going to be curious to see what Hummer does in the future. I think the bloom is off the rose in terms of the original H2 "Like no other" styling and it's Mini-Me brother the H3. Say what you will about the H2, the design sure had a wow factor when it first came out, but it's rather passé now. The next H2 should sport a cleaned up design.
