"Currently it is more likely..."

"...that we reach a decision in favor of the U.S. rather than against" or so says Dieter Zetsche regarding the possibility of brining the spunky little smart fortwo to the United States. News comes from this Forbes article which quotes German newspaper Handelsblatt. As any long term reader already knows, I've been a champion of the bringing the little car to the USA. My prediction has been that the fortwo would arrive no sooner than late 2007 as a 2008 with the official news of its import being announced no later than this April. Before smart is cast off, it seems that the only way to truly say "We tried" is to give smart a chance on American soil. There are no guarantees with this approach, but how can smart not try their hand here? The US is a huge automotive marketplace that covets everything from Minis to Hummers. The fortwo has sold rather well in Canada and it would seem only logical that it would do well in larger cities here on the west and east coasts. I just wish they'd commit already, but in lieu of that at least they are making promising statements.
