A Lot Was Riding on That Boat
A boating tragedy has claimed the life of Michelin's joint managing director, Edouard Michelin.
Michelin, who was in his early 40s, was killed near Sein island off western France's Atlantic coast, a company statement said. The circumstances of the shipwreck were still unexplained. 'Nobody saw anything, nobody heard anything. The sea was calm, but there was a thick fog that didn't lift until the middle of the day,' a spokesman for the Atlantic maritime prefecture said. Edouard Michelin's body was found in the water near the island of Sein, off the coast of Finisterre in northwest France. Michelin had lead the tire group since 1999.
The company said its other co-chief executive, Michel Rollier, will continue to ensure continuity in the group's management.
