Chrysler Asks: Why Ask Why? Ask Dr Z
In addition to the massive sale that Chrysler is about to unleash upon us (employee pricing, low financing rates, 30 day "money back" guarantee) its marketing mavens are also going to capitalize on the mustachioed wonderkind Dieter Zetsche in the form of a new website called AskDrZ. The site is supposedly going to be a repository of all things Chrysler: information about incentives, perhaps a sweepstakes, yadda yaddda. Folks can "Ask Dr Z" and after they hit the submit button, interns (AKA "a team of employees") will scurry around and dig up the answer. I'm sure that AskDrZ will serve up a healthy serving of humor while answering all those questions.
I'll file this into the "They have to do something" category. Chrysler needs to move metal and it is trying to pick up sales any which way it can. Does Dieter have what it takes to carry off this promotion? With his likeness now draped on Chrysler's Auburn Hills headquarters and a new series of humorous television commercials in which he will star, Chrysler is betting big that Dieter will be able to grab consumer's attention.
Personally I'm waiting for Dieter all decked out in lederhosen, Chrysler spokesman Jason Vines dressed as a blue genie and a bunch of Chrysler PR flacks yelling "Chop It!!!!" Until I see that promotion: the doctor is still out.
