GM / Renault-Nissan Alliance?
Automotive News is reporting that "Captain Kirk" Kerkorian has floated a proposal that the Renault-Nissan alliance is receptive to buying "a significant minority interest" in GM. It seems that the GM board is taking Kerkorian seriously because they are holding an emergency meeting, something that they've never done for any of my proposals--that must have something to do with Kerkorian's ownership of 9.9 percent of GM stock.
I have to say that this is a surprise. It has been recently reported that Nissan has had its own trouble in the sales department lately. However, Carlos Ghosn has proven to be masterful in crafting turn arounds, so much so that it has been said that Bill Ford tried to lure him to lead FoMoCo. This will definitely be a story to watch.
