2009 Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix

Neither of these models are my cup of tea, but you can't argue with the legions of loyal customers who will snap these models up. You get your choice of either a 132-hp/128 lb.-ft. of torque, 1.8-liter four-cylinder or 158-hp/162 lb.-ft. of torque, 2.4-liter four-cylinder under the hood. Five-speed manual and four and five-speed automatic transmissions will be offered. Safety features include standard driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and two-row side curtain airbags. Front seats employ active headrests as standard equipment. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is standard on all grades. Bluetooth will be available on select models.

The twins will be at your local Toyota dealer starting February 2008.

I own a 2005 Corolla LE and it's a great commuter car. I am planning to buy in two years when I pass the 05 to my kids. Given its reliability and fuel economy, you cannot go wrong with a Corolla.
