Alfa Romeo's chief of design, Frank Stephenson, is stepping down and heading for points unknown. With credits such as the 2001 MINI and heavy influence on the likes of the Fiat Nuova 500, amongst many others, Stephenson will certainly have no trouble finding work. Stephenson told Autoweek that it was his decision to leave. As to why? Stephenson isn't saying.
Chances are that Stephenson already has some irons in the fire. Given the hotness of his small car designs, Stephenson is just what the doctor ordered for America's surging demand for smaller cars. If I were a major automaker, I'd be stuffing suitcases full of money and heading for Frank's door.
