Certainly GM and Toyota have an extreme interest in Li-Ion batteries. However, it is arguably Renault/Nissan that really needs a win. Firstly, Nissault has an aggressive plan to market an all-electric vehicle. I touched on that aspect in a post a few days ago. Top off the fact that when automotive Li-Ion batteries finally are perfected, it’s going to be a real challenge to procure a large quantity of them (which an all-electric car would demand). Therefore it makes sense that Nissan is going to manufacture its own batteries. Nissan is among the first auto manufacturers to announce mass producing the feel good batteries. Automotive Energy Supply Corporation, a joint venture set up last year by Nissan, electronics giant NEC Corporation and NEC Tokin Corporation, will be providing the manufacturing muscle.
