While on vacation one rumor that I missed was that the iQ will be coming to the US as a Scion. This story was originally reported by Motor Trend and I have no reason to dispute it. I was pretty much sold on the idea that Toyota would launch the iQ here and the slight twist that it will be a Scion actually makes sense. I had just pondered the future sales outlook for the smart fortwo and speculated that the iQ could eat into the smart's dinner for one. The iQ has more seating capacity, a much larger dealer network and a much more user friendly transmission. In the smart's corner would be removable panels, funky styling and a convertible option. Priced aggressively as a Scion, the iQ might take a big chunk out of smart's future action. Motor Trend reports that the LA show could have an official announcement.
