Toyota Releases Rewards Visa: Skimps on Value

I like a rewards card just as much as the next person and I own a Toyota so I should be jacked about Toyota's new Visa card that has just opened up for business, however I'm not the least excited. Why? To be perfectly honest the card's benefits stink. Toyota is offering you 5 points per dollar spent at Toyota dealerships and 1 point per dollar everywhere else. That's a pretty lousy return for a rewards program linked to a specific product. For example, take my Pentagon Federal Visa card (well, actually don't take MY card, but let's use it as an example). I get back 5% at gasoline stations, 2% at grocery stores and 1.25% everywhere else. Those yields trump the Toyota card at every level except at Toyota dealers and I get the cash back the next month. GM, Subaru and Lexus all give you more earnings per dollar (although some programs have a yearly cap). My recommendation is to find a good rewards card that gives you cash back and isn't limited to one brand or company. However, if you are still interested in the Toyota card then you can visit the official site by clicking here.
