VW has been posting better than industry average sales numbers as of late, but if VW's November results are anything to go by, it's going to be a bloodbath. November 2008 sales are down 19.2% when comparing them against last November. To give you a little perspective, VW's October 2008 sales were down 7.9 percent.
“This is the toughest economic environment we’ve seen in a long time and it presents a significant challenge” said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Nevertheless, our clean diesel TDI’s continued to sell very well even in this tough economy and represented 17 percent of our monthly sales. This is very promising for the Volkswagen Brand as we strive to continue to be the market leader in affordable clean diesel technology. We’re also pleased that our all-new seven passenger minivan, Routan, has posted its best month ever with sales of 1,324 units.” added Barnes.

Month vs Month these are jaw dropping numbers. But when you go line by line VW does have a few things to be happy about. The biggest drop was the Passat. Even with the CC added in the sales are off somewhere around 50% (ballpark figured not real math.) The Tourag sales took a hit but this vehicle now has 2 VW competitors the Tiguan and the Routan. Those sales dwarf the Tourag previous year sales. The Routan may also be eating in Passat sales. Family goes in looking for a 4-door sedan walks out with a minivan? Maybe.
As for it's other big November losses are sunny weather cars the Eos and the Beetle convertible.
YTD VW is doing okay on it's own and incredible compared to the Big 3 American car companies. If VW had a US Market Polo they might have been in an even better position. Look at those YTD Eos & R32 sales. Just by looking at those numbers it looks like people want to downsize but want fast or sportier smaller cars. The Mini-effect takes hold on VW
