Dr. Z Is Letting It Ride
Employee Pricing Plus is getting a stay of execution. Originally intended to wrap up at the end of July the program will now end on August 31. Chrysler’s program didn’t have the Peter Pan effect that corporate was hoping for; no other manufacturer announced a competing employee pricing program.
Recent news reports have also questioned the effectives of the Dr. Z marketing effort. Chrysler sales for July fell to 150,349, down 37% from 240,146 a year earlier. According to one survey eighty percent of new-car intenders thought Dr. Z was a fictional character. I never thought about it, but if you don’t follow the auto industry I could see how he might be confused with someone from “central casting.”
The bottom line is that Chrysler is sitting on very high inventory levels and will continue to be very motivated to move the metal. Maybe Dr. Z doesn't have all the answers.
