Today In History: Ferrari's Independent Racing Debut

Ferrari made its independent racing debut at a race in Piacenza, Italy on May 11, 1947 with the Tipo 125 model. While Enzo Ferrari had worked on other racing cars, but this was the first to bear his name. Piloted by Franco Cortese, Ferrari did not finish that race, but it wasn't long before Ferrari notched its first victory only 14 days later. What an amazing run it has been for the company since that time. John Starkey cars has a very nice writeup and if you have the time, you can check it out by clicking here.
